So today is a very tense day for me. I haven't posted much on this topic, but my Grandma is not doing very well health-wise.I knew around May that she has a massive hernia in/on (?) her stomach and will need surgery for that. She cannot have surgery on that until she gets her diabetes in control. Well...I just learned that last September, she suffered a TIA stroke (mini stroke)She told no one but her friends about this until now. She had a doctors appointment the other day to see how her hernia was and if her diabetes was being controlled enough to schedule surgery. At this appointment, they told her she needed to see a cardiologist (possible congestive heart disease). She saw the cardiologist and they told her she needed to have a stress test done. Fast forward to today.....
Today at 9:00am, grandma went in for a stress test on her heart. Because of her size, she was told there was a good chance that the stress test would be too much for her heart and she could die right on the table. So...I am glad that we have lots to do today, so I can keep my mind busy and not break down in tears every 5 seconds.
I try to keep most of the details from Hailey, and jsut tell her that Monkey Grandma isn't feeling well...but the other day I said something about her heart, and Hailey said that she wanted to drive to Oregon and see her again. She also said that she didn't want Monkey Grandma to die :( That sent me into a blubbering mess....guess she's picking up on more than I thought :(
Anyway, I digress. Our day started off with the last Preschool Playdate of the Summer (well, technically there's one more next week, but we aren't able to go to that one). We headed out to Isaac Evans Park in Auburn (right on the Green River). What a gorgeous day to sit on the grass/sand by the river. Hailey
loved it! (such a difference from last year at this same park! Last year we had to pretty much bribe her to go play in the sand 2 feet away, and this year she was down in the water and had to be bribed to leave, LOL)

While we were at the park, I got the call from mom: Grandma had made it through the stress test alright, was feeling a bit dizzy/lightheaded, but was okay.. Whew! We are definitely not out of the woods by any means, but we have cleared the first hurdle! And that's all we can do: take it one hurdle at a time! Grandma goes back to her doctor next Thursday, I assume to get the results from today's tests.
So, now that I got the great call, I was able to relax a bit and enjoy the rest of our day. Next up on the agenda: head back home and wait for Tonya to come back over. Today we get a few hours just to hang out with her. It was great to sit and just shoot the breeze with her. But, all good things must come to an end...and so must her visit. We said our good-byes, and off she went. She still has a few more days left in Washington before heading back home to Vermont, but this was our last chance to visit with her. I promised to try and keep in better contact this year!! Safe travels home, Tonya! :)
Whew...what a roller coaster day this was!
