Well, today was Kids Day down at Les Gove Park in Auburn. I wasn't sure about going because of the weather, but Hailey's school had a booth there and seeing how Brian and I are both on the board this next school year, we (read Brian) had to work the booth. We went a bit early so that we could walk around and enjoy the area as a family, and then Hailey and I continued to walk around while Brian worked the booth.
It was such a fun day, and I am so proud of my little girl. The first thing Hailey wanted to do was to go in a bouncy house (an obstacle course one at that). Hailey's track record with bouncy houses hasn't been the best, so we were wondering how this was going to go. But she did AWESOME!!! Crawled in the tunnel, scaled the wall like a pro, and went down the slide with a wheee. She had so much fun, that she wanted to do it again, so...back in line we went. At this point it began to rain (the only time it did rain while we were there!). This time, when she went into the bouncy house it didn't go as well as the first time. She was worried about her socks being wet but went forth just fine. Then it came to the wall-slipped once, tried again, slipped twice sat crying in the middle of the bouncy house (where we couldn't get to her, of course!) She was very smart about it though...she followed her path back to the entry and waited for me to come get her. The problem this time at the wall was that 1-it was wet and 2-some bigger kids were in there jumping over edges that they shouldn't and so it was bouncing her down. Poor thing....but she did say she still had fun. :-)

Next up was the target throwing. Auburn Volunteer Police station has one of their speed tracker set up and you throw a ball towards it to see how fast your pitch is. Hailey's aim was great, but for some reason wasn't triggering the speed to show, so the guy running the booth threw a ball at the same time: her speed was 17 mph, lol Brian tried his luck to and threw at 54mph-he says not to sign him up to be a baseball player anytime soon, LOL

Hailey saw the gymnastics area next and got to jump on the trampoline, hang on a bar, and do the balance beam. She loved this part! After this, we walked Brian to the preschool booth and left him there for the next hour or so while us girls had some more fun. Hailey's first request was to go to the fire truck area and see 'Sparky' the fire dog! This was also a favorite from last year :-) We also did some obstacle courses at the Seattle Children's Hospital booth (she won a ball, and I signed up to be on an online parent panel to discuss children's health issues-a once a month commitment-what did I do, lol) Our next stop was the Home Depot tent. Here Hailey got to color on a ceramic tile.

As we were waiting in line for another bouncy house, we saw another kid with their face painted. I asked Hailey if she wanted her face painted (thinking it would be a BIG no, because she's never wanted it done before because of the texture issues) and she said YES!!! It was getting close to the end of Kids day, so she and I made the executive decision to go to the face painting booth right away. She did so well, and ended up looking like a kitty cat (El Gato, as Hailey has been saying recently). Our final stop for kids day was to the city lawn mower and construction trucks. She loved sitting on them and pretending she was driving them. We said a quick hello to the blue recycle guy, and then we headed back to help Brian clean up the booth so we could go home.

Hailey and I ended the day by being silly while we waited for Brian to walk and get the car (which we thought had been stolen or towed because he couldn't remember where we had parked, lol), and then drive it up onto the grass to load up the booth. Here's a record of our silliness (Hailey's at least-I didn't leave a trace of my silliness!)
Hailey was a bit disappointed that she didn't find Clifford this year, but she had so much fun doing everything else that it didn't matter a whole bunch. What a great family day! :-)
