January was filled with trying to get back to some sense of normalcy after the Christmas mayhem that unfolded. Hailey's school focused on an 'Under the Sea' theme. One day the kids at school even got to hold a hermit crab- though Hailey assures me that she just held the container, lol. At the end of the month, they got to take a field trip to Redondo Beach. Apparently the tide was in quite a way, so there wasn't much 'beach' to play on. The weather wasn't spectacular either, but the kids seemed to have fun. Brian said that most of them stood at the water's edge and through rocks in.
For Hailey, the month of January ended with a snowball fight at school. No, we didn't have any snow at the time, but the preschoolers loved their toilet paper snowball fight :-)
Towards the end of the month, Hailey and I took a girls trip down to Oregon to visit Grandma and Grandpa and Monkey Grandma. While we were there she got to go to a Build-A-Bear-Workshop for the very first time. Out of all of the cute kitties, bunnies, and puppies, Hailey decided to make an OWL!?!?! lol Crazy kid, but it really did turn out cute in the end. Once the owl was stuffed, the lady working told us to find an outfit for the owl and to try on as many outfits as we wanted. Well, Hailey took that to the extreme-she definitely had fun! Oh, and she named her owl "Hooty the Owl" :-)

February
February 2nd I decided to call in sick to work. Hailey had a field trip to the Pantages(sp?) theater in Tacoma today and, since I always miss out on her field trips, thought this would be a fun one to go on. earlier in the week her teacher had read a book called Giggle, Giggle, Quack, which is what the theater was performing. Hailey loved the book, so I knew this would be a fun experience for her (though I was unsure of how long she would sit still for, lol). Well, she surprised me and did really well. One of the teachers at her school assured us parents that we would be sitting in the front area of the theater. Well, we were in the very back, though it was probably a bit easier to see for the little ones. Hailey sat in her seat for most of the show. She did start getting a bit antsy at one point, but as soon as I realized that the play had already been going for 45 minutes, I cut her some slack. The only other time that she got out of her seat was to dance to the music. Obviously, she loved the theater and Giggle, giggle, Quack. In fact, as a treat afterwards, we went out to lunch and hit the bookstore where we purchased Hailey her very own copy of the book. (guess what we've been reading non-stop, lol)
The next adventure for this month was valentine's Day. I gave Hailey the choice of buying cards for her school friends or making them....she chose to make them. I brought a bunch of die-cuts home from work and let her chose the set-up, glue them on, and then color and write her name. I was surprised she wanted to write her name so many times, as this really isn't something that we've been working on too hard (we've worked on the letter 'H') so I knew it would be a struggle. Well, boy did she surprise me. The 'e' is still pretty tricky and her 'y' resembles an 'x', but for a 3-year old I was impressed (as was her teacher!) Once her cards were finished, we stuck them in a heart baggie with a pencil, stickers, and a heart-shaped crayon that we made with her old broken crayons. Hailey was excited to go to school that morning to hand them out. But I'm getting ahead of myself....
Valentine's morning, I woke up extra early. I cleaned the house for Brian as his 'present' and I hung the leftover hearts all over the house for Hailey to find when she woke up. I happened to be in the shower when she first woke up. I heard a knock on the door and I said 'who is it?' The little voice returned 'it's me, silly'. She pushed her way into the bathroom and proceeded to ask me "where did all these hearts come from?' I asked her where she thought they came from and she said' well, when did you put them up, silly?' Ha! Guess she knows me pretty well :-) after that, I was off to work and Hailey and Brian were off to school. She got to make her own Valentine bag with stickers and then got to hand out her goody bags. What a fun day!
The very next day, February 15th, we had a busy day. First, Hailey had a field trip to the Auburn Airport to visit the flight school there. Apparently, they had a mini flight class for the kids but Hailey wasn't listening too well for that...she was more interested in going out to see the airplanes (her Uncle Chris would be proud!) The one thing she could tell me from the class was that she got to touch a propeller. lol After the class part was over, the flight school took the kids out to sit in one of the airplanes...Hailey was super excited!! although, remember how she wasn't listening very well!?! Well, when it was time for her to get out of the cockpit so another child could get in, she refused. She told the lady that she wasn't ready to get out yet (again, a proud Uncle Chris!). Well...they didn't want her to be upset so they let her climb in the back and pretend to be a passenger. She was the.only, kid who got to do this. Someone sure thought they were special, lol.
Later that night, after I got home from work and had dinner, we had to rush off to Hailey's school for an ice cream social. What fun this was! They had a couple of different crafts (Valentine's Day and transportation for the theme of the month) and ice cream with all possible toppings. They were also going to have story time, but it was getting too late so they'll save it for next time.
What a fun month this has started out to be. I think I am now caught up through the 3rd week of February, hopefully I'll keep up a bit better from now on. I can't believe it is almost March, time sure does fly!
