This past Saturday we decided to get all bundled up and go to the Kent Winterfest in downtown Kent. It was a struggle to get out the door, but well worth it once we got there. (well the tree lighting was worth it...the parade...not as much, lol) winterfest started out with the Santa parade which consisted of about 6 different "floats". Included in the parade was the Kent Cornucopia Days princesses, a girl scout troop, a group pulling 3 llamas (which Hailey was excited to pet!), a local high school marching band-though they called themselves a drum and bugle corp, but that's beside the point, Santa and Mrs. Claus on a firetruck, and....a handful of people dressed as Darth Vader and swinging light sabers. Hailey loved to dance to the music from the band. Well...actually she said she liked the music, but not the marching band, so apparently she wasn't too impressed either, lol. The Darth Vader stuff just was confusing. Anyway, that was the whole parade!!! We rushed around trying to get ready, only to see a 2 minute parade. Oh well...
After the parade we continued the chilly walk down to the 'park' area across from the library. This is the part that made it all worthwhile. Upon arriving, the wind decided to pick back up. Good thing we were all bundled up, including a bunny hat for Hailey (thanks Laura!). We took a few photo ops and then hopped in line for some free popcorn and hot chocolate/cider. We found the perfect spot to sit and waited around for a bit before Santa and Mrs. Claus lit the Christmas tree. This was so pretty. The city of Kent has the whole park area, and the Christmas tree, light up in sync with some Christmas music. The event concluded with a few festive fireworks in the sky. Kind of a cheesy event, but fun nonetheless! Here's a few pictures from our evening.
