The Borland Family Christmas Tree

I love this time of the year.  The overall feeling of joy and happiness (as cheesy as it sounds, lol), the lights, the decorations, the 'magical' feeling in the air, and of course...the Christmas tree! It's always been a tradition to go to a U-cut tree farm and cut down our own tree-a la Clark Griswold.  It's always a blast, and it never goes as planned.  This year was no different! This weekend we were to get dumped on with rain-monsoon like almost.  So when we woke up Saturday morning to find it dry, we made the decision that today would be the day to get the tree- that way we could get it while it was still dry (the weather system wasn't supposed to hit until after noon!). So....we got all bundled up in our coats and old shoes/rain boots and trekked  out in search of a farm called 'Trees N' Bees'.  Well, wouldn't you know, as soon as we started the car it started sprinkling rain. By the time we drove up the long windy hill and found the farm it was coming down pretty decent.  Then, we stepped out of the car and the skies opened up!!  Yep, no turning back now.  The place was a bit confusing-no one really greeted you or showed you where to go-so we asked.  While Brian was doing that, I asked Hailey if she had to go potty-"Nope".  So, we got our saw and wagon, and started meandering down the muddy road.

Hailey's Griswold moment-the bigger the tree, the better

She liked the 'cute' small trees, too!
Mommy, what are we doing out here, lol

Hailey had already told me in the car that she didn't like mud, so we knew this was going to be fun, LOL.  On the way we met 2 roosters and 2 llama (mocha and caramel).  So we finally find the area where we were pointed to for the grand fir trees. We were told only to cut trees that were tagged-hmmmm, where were the tags!?! For that matter....where were the gorgeous grand firs that we were expecting?? The only ones we saw were either humongous or really sparse in their branches.  So we cross the other side of the "road" and Hailey announces that she has to go potty-really bad!!  So I leave Brian with the wagon and all, swoop Hailey up, and run through the mud to get back up to the pavilion area before an accident occurs (we made it!) Brian seized the opportunity to ask if they had more grand firs, so he was set to go when us girls came back out. This time we headed in the opposite direction, and by this time our jackets were almost soaked all the way through!! Yes, there we more trees, but none of them were 'the' tree (for those of you who know me....I like to try to find the perfect tree and am a bit picky/obsessive about it (again, a la Clark Griswold).  So at this point, we're soaked and I'm getting frustrated/upset because I'm not finding the perfect tree....perfect 'happy holiday' moment.  We were on a really tight schedule as it was because of a Christmas party later and nap time for Hailey, I suggested we go back to the entrance where they had some pre-cut trees *gasp* . First though, we had to take a picture of Brian pretending to cut down 'our' tree (thinking we'd fine the same species up front, lol)
pretending to cut down 'our' tree
They had looked pretty decent when we pulled up and I thought I had seen a bunch of grands ups there (Nope, only 2 gigantic bushes, lol) So, were were about to leave empty handed when I saw a tree (cue Hallelujah music). It was a gorgeous noble (branches were pretty dense so it didn't look like a Charlie Brown tree).  By this tie it went from dumping to pouring rain so without checking it out too much, I said we'll take it.  We ran into the pavillion where we got to talk with Mrs. Claus, pet a kitty, and have a warm lunch. So....our perfect family outing to cut down a Christmas tree turned into a fun, but very wet picking of a already cut tree.  Oh well....we have a tree.  Now to just get it decorated-I think it'll need a couple of days to dry before coming in the house, LOL.
The 'actual' Borland Family Christmas Tree!
